sense revival center
Here’s The Concept:
The sense revival center is hidden gem located under a public park/programed into an office building located in the West loop gate. The office buildings envelope consist of a glass curtain wall hung from a blackened steel frame, inside is located a centralized core. The frames ombre patterned is a reflection of the interior process one undertakes when entering the sense revival center. Dark to light, hell to heaven, caios to peace. This journey takes you through the process of removing all ones senses, to slowly regaining them as one would in your mothers womb. With modern technology we are able to offer you an experiential journey within the hopes you can find inner peace and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level.
Site, Materiality, & Process
In order to create a utopian space, I first needed to know what kind of utopia I wanted to create. I started by looking into LGBT spaces and playing with building form. Understanding darkness into light, tramma to healing, and the process of birth were all concept drivers for this project.
Process of regaining senses during birth:
Sense 1: Touch- 8 weeks.
Sense 2: Smell- 13 weeks
Sense 3: Taste- 13-15 weeks
Sense 4: Sound- 20 weeks
Sense 5: Sight-\ 26 weeks
Floor Plans, Sections, and The Dance
It was important to return most of the property along the river back to the people. The river is a natural resource and should be enjoyed by all. Creating a relaxing space to escape the busy city is vital for centering and grounding ones self.
The West Loop seemed perfect, due to the surplus of business men/women in stress-filled jobs. The building is supported through the program of rentable office space, the programing entangles business and pleasure, it is in constant tension. Whether trauma that needs resolving, a stressful job, self doubt, confusion, or just needing a new beginning... THIS IS THE SPACE TO DO IT! This Journey starts with the complete loss of all your senses, this bringing you to a new start. Are you ready?
